Client: Don't Look Down TV
Project: Big Brother Africa
Don’t Look Down Convergence Agency used never.no’s technology to help power social engagement and interaction points for several seasons of M-Net’s Big Brother Africa.
DLD, on behalf of DSTV Online, used never.no’s social TV platform to collect and moderate social content before publishing to air.
Viewers could share their thoughts about the show and contestants by using the Big Brother hashtag on Twitter, or via a custom-built Big Brother Facebook application as well as sending an SMS. The incoming social content was then published to the broadcast playout system.
Additionally, the content was pushed to never.no’s presenter tool ‘Prompter’ where the show’s host could read out viewer’s comments live on air. Prompter was also used during eviction shows to read out the questions viewers had for the person who’d just left the house. This was an effective way for Big Brother to understand what their audience were saying about the show and give their viewers a voice.
Social polls powered by never.no allowed viewers to have their say on key topics, with dynamic results displayed live on air during the show.
The Big Brother Endemol format was broadcast as a weekly show to an extensive audience in over 53 countries via a 24hr TV channel and a highly trafficked website. Throughout the 24/7 live feed, DLD continually shared the audience’s comments via a lower third ticker. The Big Brother website was dynamically updated with social data powered by never.no, extending the reach across broadcast and digital.
The social interaction with the audience reflected not only user opinion, but gave viewers the opportunity to have their names and photos shown on screen.
