CBC News’ wanted to provide viewers of the US election night broadcast an engaging Social TV experience.
Viewers of CBC’s Election Night and Presidential Debate broadcasts sent in their tweets using the specific CBC hashtag, participated in polls (Ballot Box Votes) and scanned QR codes.
never.no’s Social TV framework was used to harvest the tweets and data, moderate in real-time and then publish on air using Vizrt’s graphics systems,with the tweets appearing in the Comment Box. During the Election Night broadcast, CBC saw 6394 users send in 11,832 tweets with the program’s hashtag ‘#USVotesCBC’ being the 4th highest trending hashtag in Canada.
