The never.no Active Mobile Interface enables audience participation by turning any mobile phone keypad into a game controller, mouse, keyboard, or any other interface for playing games, voting, or simply browsing and selecting content. The never.no system is flexible enough not only to work with digital signage, but also standard TV, Web IPTV, and mobile content. And when used in conjunction with the never.no Auto Dialogue System (ADS), the advertiser can follow up the interaction with an SMS message containing game scores, follow up information, and coupons for prizes to establish a long-tail relationship.

We had the privilege together with Urban View to deliver an interactive Christmas experience at Oslo City, Oslo’s largest shopping center. In the days leading up to Christmas Day, visitors were able to display a personal greeting to other shoppers in the mall by uploading photographs and images via multimedia messaging service (MMS) to giant display screens.

Oslo City’s usual digital signage mix of commercials and information messages was enhanced with regular three-minute interactive slots, creating frequent attention-grabbing interludes in which viewers could see what other shoppers had posted, and post their own pictures. never.no’s Interactivity Suite allows an operator to modify content before it is displayed.

Here we are powering part of a unique exhibit, “From King to Obama,” on display at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo through April 11, 2010. The digital signage (DS) portion of the exhibit, a collaborative effort by MORE Mobile Relations, Active Loop Television, and never.no invites viewers to post their own text or photo responses using their mobile phones. The responses are then incorporated by our technology almost instantaneously into a collage appearing on the digital sign.

The entire program surface is controlled through a never.no turnkey system, featuring never.no’s Interactivity Desk as the tool for populating templates, moderating chat and images, scheduling votes and competitions and providing web-interface control to the rest of the studio’s equipment. The background graphics and video clips are controlled from ID and DCS and played back by the Vizrt system.
SMS messages are charged NOK 10 (€1.15) and MMS messages are charged NOK 15 (€1.72). There are also two premium chat services, one in the lower third for NOK 15 (€1.15) and one overlaying itself in a cool design over the standard chat for NOK 60 (€6.90).

Peak hours see response rates in the range of 100 messages per 1000 viewers per hour, with an average message cost of €1.20.
